[challenge] snowflake challenge days oo1 - oo5

I've been interested in doing this type of thing for ages but unfortunately I am absolute crap and have a tendency of finding out about such things only after said things have happened. Luckily, this challenge is still on-going and allows me to catch up on the days I missed. Yay!







DAY ONE
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you have created. It can be your favorite fanworks that you've created, or fanworks you feel no one ever saw, or fanworks you say would define you as a creator.

→ Okay, the fist rec would have to be this evolution which is a fic (more of a drabble, really) I wrote a while back. It's an Effy/Cook, Effy/Freddie 1920s AU which is probably the reason I like it so much as I've had a soft spot for the '20s ever since the eighth grade where I had a part in Flapper! A Madcap Musical.

This fic was intended to be longer, a lot longer, with flapper!Katie and covert rendezvous between Emily and Naomi as well as mob bosses and gangsters, the whole shebang. Unfortunately, I got lazy. I might go back to it someday as I love the time period so much but this is all for now.

→ My second rec is a vid I made back in 2011 on WMM which if you know anything about vidding, is practically incapable of making anything of decent quality. I worked extremely hard on this vid though and I think you can't even really tell it's a WMM and not a SV production, at least not upon first viewing. It's only 11 seconds long but it took me ages to do, specifically the part from 0:08:-0:11, which probably doesn't sound like a lot, but in vidding terms, it is, especially as there are so many fast beats within those two seconds. It's also a Jerermy/Caroline video and I think the show only had two seasons at that point? And manips are hard, yo. Speaking of manips, I also made a Hermione/Percy video which I think deserves an honorable mention, for some of the same reasons listed before. Manips, man. Manips.

→ My last rec is actually a graphic I made for a screencap meme on my old tumblr. Someone requested Teen Wolf + White and I was really proud of the result. I just really liked how the coloring turned out and how it sort of formed a pattern with the first pic having this paleish white tone while the second one kind of contrasted that and it just continued on from there.




DAY TWO
In your own space, promote three communities, challenges, blogs, pages, Twitters, Tumblrs or platforms and explain why you love them.

Oh, wow, okay, I'm really indecisive can I do three for each? I'm gonna do three for each.

COMMUNITIES:
→crack_broom
I'm pretty sure everyone and their mother know aboutcrack_broom already, but just in case. crack_broom is a solely HP reccing community. They are "here to help you feed your multi-ship HP addiction by providing a constant stream of recommendations to high-quality HP stories, as well as an opportunity to volunteer to share your own recs with the fandom at large!" It's a great community and I've found some really lovely fics and art through them.

This comm probably won't be of much interest to anyone unless they are a hockey fan. If you are, then, hey! This might be the place for you! The comm hosts challenges and such centered specifically around hockey. Some of the types of things that have been done in the past are Halloween challenges and feedback drives. Unfortunately, the comm hasn't been updated since October but the mods personal lj's have been updated so I'm holding out hope they're just busy and are coming up with something even greater to bring soon.

→hogwartsishome
This comm is a bit different from the other two given that it's a sorting comm based on HP. It holds tons of contests and activities, there's separate comms for each House, it's almost like actually being at Hogwarts! So much fun.

CHALLENGES:
→5_prompts
In this challenge there is no claiming, no time limits, no fuss. Which is a godsend for people like me who are terrible at all of those things, especially time limits. There's only 5 prompts and you can use them however and for who/whatever you want. Easy, right? Now, if only school were like this.

→fanmix challenge
Fanmixes! Yay! Who doesn't love fanmixes? For this challenge you make a mix for each of the 10 themes which include everything from days of the week to mythological creatures. Fun!

→screencap meme There's a number of extended versions of this but I've just linked to the original instead. This meme is pretty old now but graphics are still being made for it and quite wonderful ones at that. It's a really lovely concept and I'm glad it's stuck around for so long. Also, I still have requests for this that have yet to be filled someone remind me to get on that.

Allyson Kramer's blog hosts a plethora of vegan and gluten free recipes. She's a great resource for people like me who are allergic to gluten, allergic to diary, and are vegans.

→Thought Catalog
Technically, an online magazine, but just roll with it. Thought Catalog has a multitude of writers posting articles every day on topics such as love, life, and heartbreak. These articles are the ones that are usually so eloquently crafted you feel as if you're reading poetry or prose. But then there are also articles that are reminscenent of BuzzFeed in that you can't believe someone actually made an entire post about this, yet you click on it anyway.

→Trash to Couture
This blog makes me want to learn how to sew. As a broke, jobless college student I'm constantly looking for new ways to spice up old clothes so I don't have to shell out money on new ones. Laura's blog shows tons of DIY clothing projects that actually seem doable (I can't sew but my mom and sister can? Sort of?) and are completely adorable. Not to mention she's insanely gorgeous.

I'm not exactly sure what pages means so I'm just gonna skip it, cool? Okay, cool.

DAY THREE
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser-known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom who maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.

Dan/Nate/Serena, M, Dan burns the chicken so Nate orders pizza, tells Serena, "Welcome to our world."

I'm pretty positive this isn't a popular pairing as I've only seen..two? fics for it. But it should be because it works so incredibly well. This fic is what made me see the beauty of this ship in the first place and it made me fall in love with everything that they could be. It's probably got a spot in my favorite fics of all time.

Peeta/Gale, NR, It's been a long time since school but they're all children; wide-eyed, hands by their sides, changing the world, saving lives.

This is a rare pair, I know that for sure. I didn't ship it, in fact I still don't really, but this fic is beautiful. It's breathtakingly written and it's gut-wrenching and heartbreaking and 100% believable. It's worth reading even if you aren't exactly a fan of the pairing. Beautiful, beautiful fic.

This vid is breathtaking, the scenes match the lyrics, the effects match the beats (there's a fantastic use of transitions and closeups), there's a perfect choice in voice-overs, and the coloring is gorgeous.

This is really difficult as I don't really have one fandom has much as I have...several. Thousand. Nevertheless.

paper has written some of my favorite fics of all time including If You Liked The Book You'll Hate The Movie which features Hank being BFF's with Emma, Erik as a guidance counselor, and everything else you never knew you wanted. If you haven't read it do me a solid and do, okay? Please?

Not only are all of paper's fics extremely well-written and in character, but she manages to convey a sense of her own personality throughout her work. I always enjoy everything she does from 60ks to simple hellos. It's a constant in my life, waiting to see what she'll amaze us all with next.

Ah, what to say about portions... Well, I fell in love with her through comments on ficathons, that's how amazing she is. I mean how it's possible to make someone fall in love with you Ivhsve no idea but she did it. She's like Superwoman only a million times better. You know that song Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic? 99.999% positive it was written about her.
