[recs] fic, multifandom
for the ostracized from society square on my
hc_bingo card. recs under the cut.
A SONG OF ICE AND FIRE
oo1.
Title: you will find no safe harbor here
Author: trysts
Pairing: Robb/Sansa
Summary: yes, sweet, you have won but what exactly is your prize?
Rating: R
This fic fits with the category because it focuses on a romantic relationship between two people who are related.
HARRY POTTER
oo2.
Title: Holding On To Tradition
Author:
katmarajade
Pairing: George/Luna
Summary: It's not Christmas but Boxing Day that hits him hardest.
Rating: PG
George and Luna bond over the loss of their loved ones in this and in this case both of their loved ones were extremely close to them. While losing someone close to you isn't exactly uncommon it isn't exactly common either. It fits with the theme because no one else really knows the loss that they have to deal with, and so they're kind of excluded from society at large.
oo3.
Title: My Wayward Son.
Author:
operous
Pairing: Gen
Summary: James was the only one who could even vaguely remember having a home, having a normal life.
Rating: pg-13
This is an HP/Supernatural fusion and if you know anything about Supernatural you know it focuses on two brothers who travel across the country hunting and killing demons. They mostly live in motels and beloved Car. James Sirius, Lily, and Albus were raised this way in the AU. Living in motels, or out of a car, is something frowned upon by society and by hunting creatures that majority of people don't believe exist, the group have become ostracized.
oo4.
Title: The Ward
Author:
chibitoa
Pairing: Harry/Charlie
Summary: Harry is going blind. Ron and Hermione need to find the Grangers. They ask Charlie to stay with Harry while they're gone.
Rating: R
Anyone born with an illness is ostracized by society. In this fic Harry is going blind and blindness is one of the illnesses that extremely affects a person's ability to included.
HOCKEY RPF
oo5.
Title: The Jar of General Equality (Patrick named it)
Author: PhoenixamongstWolves
Pairing: Patrick Kane/Jonathan Toews
Summary: “We have this thing that we do. When someone makes a chirp or says something that’s homophobic, we have this jar, and you have to put twenty dollars in.”
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
This fic fits the theme because it's about how ostracizing it can be to identify as something other than straight in a male dominated profession and how quips of derogatory language are often used to be insulting the player's ability, but insult other's humanity.
oo6.
Title: Enough To Crush Your Veins
Author: doctor_denmark
Pairing: Eric Staal/Jeff Skinner
Summary: When Canadian figure skater Jeff Skinner wrecked his knee, he never could have imagined that he'd end up helping pay his way through college as a live-in babysitter for Eric Staal's three-year-old son, Joey.
Rating: Explicit
This fic has a couple of tropes I think fall under the category. Firstly, homosexuality in athletics, injured athletics, a male doing a typically female profession, and differing social classes, all of which are ostracizing in their own way.
PUSH
oo7.
Title: Driving with the brakes on
Author:
musesfool
Pairing: Nick/Cassie
Summary: Nick discovers a way to help Cassie see more clearly. It's a little sketchier than he's comfortable with.
Rating: Explicit
All of the characters with secret abilities are ostracized within this film because of their special abilities. Adding to that, this fic focuses on a relationship between an older man and a younger girl, which is something that has often alienated partners from others.
SUITS
oo8.
Title: The New Deal
Author: Closer
Pairing: Gen
Summary: Harvey Specter, second year law student at Harvard, was walking home one night when he found a teenaged runaway named Mike freezing to death on his doorstep.
Rating: Teen And Up Audiences
Mike knows the feeling of being ostracized extremely well in this AU, for he is a runaway, which is an extremely lonely. It is so lonely in fact that runaways/homeless people will often go for days without having any human contact.
TEEN WOLF
oo9.
Title: Pack Up; Don't Stray
Author: the_deep_magic
Pairing: Derek/Stiles
Summary: AU – Werewolves are an enslaved underclass, collared and tagged by human masters. Detective Stilinksi’s on duty the night they bring in an untagged stray.
Rating: Explicit
This fic completely fits the ostracized from society because as stated above, werewolves are enslaved, they aren't even considered a part of it.
THE AVENGERS
o10.
Title: Launch Your Assault
Author: foxxcub
Pairing: Clint Barton/Phil Coulson
Summary: Phil Coulson was more than halfway through his six year plan, and everything was chugging along nicely. Unfortunately, he hadn’t foreseen a cocky junior Art major waltzing into his life, or his floor.
Rating: Explicit
This fic fits with the theme because it touches on Clint's history, specifically, as on orphan. Being an orphan is extremely isolating, lonely, and ostracizing.
