on occassion, depending on how you use it, and who you follow, tiktok can actually be useful. i recently found about the queer liberation library via my fyp (which is suprising because i seem to be one of the few people the algorithm can't quite figure out. probably because i mostly just watch the people i follow.)

anyway, the queer liberation library is "a queer digital library that makes queer literature, information, and resources available to our library members across the united states."

you have to apply to be a member and the application requires your first and last name (these do not have to be your legal names) and check a box confirming you have a u.s. mailing address (you do not have to provide this address). i believe i applied tuesday night and received my approval email wednesday but they've gone a bit viral on tiktok and have had an influx of over 10k new members so it might take a bit longer if you apply now. looking at my libby, i believe you get 3 loans and 7 holds at a time.

i'm very lucky that my local library has a decent amount of queer fiction but it's not quite as well stocked on the nonfiction front. i currently use libby and hoopla through my library, as well as paying for kindle unlimited and everand (formerly known as scribd), and i was really pleased to see that QLL had some harder to find titles (at least, titles that are harder to find for me, in ebook/audio format) such as queer poets of color, black girl, call home, postcolonial love poem, we both laughed in pleasure, we have always been here, lesbian love story, how to survive a plague, odd girls and twilight lovers, and burning my roti, just to name a few. they also have quite a few literary, comics/graphic novels, manga, poetry, and indie and small press releases that my library does not. this is in addition to some of the more popular/saturated queer lit you're probably aware of.

like a regular library, membership is free but they do rely on donations to keep running, so if you do become a member, donate if you can!

i'm so glad to see something like this exist, especially in this age of book banning and anti queer and trans legislation, and especially as someone living in georgia.

as you may have deduced from the 5 drabbles i just posted, i'm writing again! those drabbles only have a total word count of 1k all together but god, after over two years of writing almost nothing, it feels so good just to be writing again! when i typed 1107 into the monthly checkin count for getyourwordsout, i wasn't ashamed or disappointed in myself, i was ecstatic. it's been so long since i've written something that over 1,000 words felt monumental. and it still does!

around thanksgiving a longtime friend of mine asked for my help with her first ever fic and i think the experience of helping and editing that is to thank for reigniting my passion. i remember telling her afterward that i truly loved doing it and that it made me miss writing but despite being motivated, i still wasn't inspired to write.

i haven't signed up for an exchange or fest in god knows how long because i just haven't been able to commit these past few years but i scour each and every one of them for potential treating opportunities. i think the last treat i wrote was in...2021? for multifandomdrabble? but the friday before last i saw a request for the cabots series by cat sebastian and maybe it was because i had just read peter cabot (one of my favorite books of all time and my favorite of the series) on new year's eve and immediately wanted to reread it 3 separate times in the span of less than a month (i didn't. but i wanted to.) but next thing i knew i had written a 300 word drabble. and then within 3 days i had written four more drabbles in four other fandoms!

i was worried about how they would be received, even moreso than usual, because it had been so long since i had written anything. i thought they were good, which is a rarity in itself, but i also thought that maybe i didn't know what good looked like anymore. luckily, i was very pleasantly surprised and have gotten lovely feedback on all of them! i was expecting each of them to get one comment each from and said comment to be from the giftee but i've been really fortunate that all but one of have gotten multiple comments from other people as well!

i've been trying to keep a list of "glimmers" (one for each day) because the depression™ (and the anxiety and the ocd and the adhd and the chronic illness and the disability, etc., etc.) is rough and just the combination of writing again and the lovely feedback has me feeling elated enough to be weeks worth of glimmers.

oh, and i also wrote two three sentence fics! a gen ted lasso one and one for a league of their own (i will never get over the fact that tom hanks and geena davis did not fuck in that movie. let the people fuck!).
