[tv talk] suspicion, feminism, and disappointment

brooklyn nine nine.
i am loving b99 this season! i feel like this show just keeps getting better and better. i really like how they've incorporated jake and amy's relationship into the show but without making it the entire show, y'know?

the walking dead.
honestly, i'm kind of just...disappointed with the walking dead this season? it just feels very slow and really...boring. i remember there was one episode where i just left and didn't keep watching because i was already tired and within fifteen minutes i genuinely thought it was going to make me fall asleep. a lot of the episodes feel like that. and barely any of the characters i actually want to see get any screen time. i'd really love to just watch an hour of maggie, glenn, (he's alive, okay? he has to be.), tara, rosita, daryl, carol, rick, michonne, eric and aaron. and we barely get any scenes of them at all, let alone together. i can't remember the last time tara and rosita had a conversation? or daryl and carol? or rick and michonne? at least one that lasted more than two seconds and wasn't around twenty other people. i think it may come down to the fact that i just don't like any of the alexandrians. besides aaron and eric. speaking of them, is eric even still alive? because it definitely doesn't seem like it when watching the show, he's barely in the episodes at all and if he is he doesn't speak. which is what most of the characters are like this season actually. even if they are in the episode they barely speak. it's just really frustrating. i liked the group that we had. i liked the family that we had. because that's what the show has always said they were, a family. and yet it feels like they've completely dropped that concept. it doesn't make any sense. i mainly just watch the show out of habit now than any actual excitement or enjoyment. and that's really disappointing.

supergirl.
i wasn't going to watch this because the trailers made it seem like it wasn't really my cup of tea but then i saw a couple of gifs on tumblr that piqued my interest so i started watching and now i'm in love. as with most shows i'm much more interested in the characters and the relationships than the plot. i'm completely in love with kara, and i like james, and i'm even coming to like cat. i love how their relationships is developing and all of their scenes in the last episode. the show does have its cheesy moments, as is to be expected with cbs, but everything else pretty much outshines that, especially all of the feminist moments in the show. while i like winn's character, i really don't like the whole 'nice guy in love with the main girl' aspect and i really hope they aren't going to go down the 'oh he's completely in love with her and he's a nice guy (aka fairly decent human being) therefore he deserves her' route. i'm hoping that as the shows really feminist so far they won't but you never know.

grandfathered.
i love this show! i don't know why more people don't watch it. it's hilarious and john stamos and paget brewster are great in it and their chemistry is off the charts, i'm shipping them like crazy. i'm really surprised there isn't more of an interest in it from fandom people because:

  • a young male character who is a proclaimed feminist and isn't afraid of showing emotion

  • a cuban american young mother who despite being a "hot mess" is focus and determine and completely believes in herself

  • an indian american chef

  • a black lesbian kick ass assistant

basically, WATCH THIS SHOW. i beg of you.

the grinder.
honestly i don't get the hype about this show. i've tried watching, i tried to get into it, but i just don't find it funny. grandfathered comes on before it and i laugh more in five minutes of it than two episodes of the grinder. fred savage's character just comes off as whiny and annoying to me and with all of the whining his voice starts to become like nails on a chalkboard. i wanted to like it because rob lowe's shows are usually pretty good and i really liked mary elizabeth ellis in always sunny and natalie morales in parks and rec. i like them but even they aren't enough to save it from being a miss for me.

scream queens.
like majority of the population i am loving this show. it's so completely ridiculous that it's hilarious. i was worried it would be so ridiculous that it wasn't funny but it's completely the opposite. my only complaint is that it grosses me out sometimes and that anyone is up for being killed off! i'm still upset about sam/predatory lez. i was shipping her and chanel #3 so much.

criminal minds.
i haven't regularly watched criminal minds since paget brewster was a regular. (emily was my favorite character and i'm still so angry about the network's treatment of paget and aj. in fact it's come to my attention that this network is a pretty horrible network to work for but that's another story.) i watched some of the episodes with alex blake whom i unfortunately didn't realize i loved until she was gone. i didn't watch the season with jennifer love hewitt in it just because i didn't have any interest in the show anymore. i recently watched a couple of episodes though and it was just...awful? i mean not awful i guess but i just...it wasn't my cup of tea. i didn't like aisha tyler's character at all and i don't know it just didn't seem like the same show it used to be. does anyone who's been watching it regularly feel that way too? it may just be me only watching it sparingly but.

how to get away with murder.
i still like the show but my main motivation for watching is connor, oliver, connor/oliver, michaela, and connor&michaela. they're like the only ones who are bearable these days. i like laurel but her back and forth with frank gets a bit tiring. i go back and forth between whether or not i like bonnie and annalise like 100 times an episode.

the mindy project.
mindy continues to be hilarious. i'm still not sure whether or not i like jody or not though. while peter's douche bag shtick was lovable, jody just mainly comes off as gross. speaking of peter, i loved seeing him on the show again as i completely adore him but i was really disappointed in his story line. particularly that there was barely any peter/mindy. even without my peter/mindy shipper goggles on, there should have been more peter/mindy. they were best. friends.and mindy just kicked him to the side like that? it just didn't sit right with me. on another note, what's up with danny? i know the reason for him not being around is that he's visiting his dad but i'm wondering what was/is going on with messina that he's not in the episodes? usually the actor is busy with another project or on ma/paternity leave when something like this happens but i didn't see anything about that with messina so i was just curious.

master of none.
i'm only about halfway through the season but i'm really liking this show so far! i don't really have that much to say other than that aziz ansari is a genius and i'm even more in love with him than i was before.

girl meets world.
in case you don't know i completely adore girl meets world. words can't even explain how much. i have a sideblog on tumblr that's pretty much specifically for this show, if that gives you an idea. i love the characters and the relationships and the issues they're dealing with and just. ugh. everything.

mainly what i have to say about this is:
GO WATCH IT.

jessica jones.
so jessica jones premieres tomorrow and i'm...wary? the show itself looks very dark and gritty and i'm just not sure whether or not krysten ritter can pull it off. i've only seen her in comedy roles, never something as serious as this is looking to be. i haven't watched breaking bad but i think she may have had a more serious role in that? if anyone watched it, how was she? do you think she'll be able to pull jessica jones off?

agent carter.
the promo for season two came out and eh...i'm just not feeling it? it looks a lot lighter than season one and i was hoping they'd go in a darker direction. i also noticed the lack of angie in the trailer and i am not here for that.

Yeah, HTGAWM changed its tone a bit from S1, didn't it? And sadly, its pacing. Some of them I like more than ever (Connor, Michaela, Oliver) and some others I'm increasingly eeeeh about. Ah well.

Supergirl is so cute. :D

Same in regards to TWD. How do you make Zombies this boring? I honestly don't understand.

I remember last season with HTGAWM everyone would be on the edge of their seats and would be talking about the plot twists days afterward but majority of the time this season I wouldn't even remember what happened the next day. I'm happy with some of the character/relationship development (especially Connor and Michaela becoming closer♥) but as for plot my feelings are basically summed up with meh.

Supergirl is so adorable!

I didn't think it was possible to make zombies boring either! But TWD seems to have done it. I'm not sure if you've watched the latest episode but it kept the agonizingly slow pace (at least to me). The mid season finale looks like it might finally pick up some action, but why wait until the finale? We've been wanting real action all season!

P.S. - I love your icon!♥
